Job description

Pentagon Talent have partnered with a top 100 UK law firm who are looking for a dynamic and experienced Legal Cashier to join their esteemed Finance Department in the Reading office. The Legal Cashier will play a crucial role in providing efficient and accurate support for daily financial transactions, with a primary focus on fee-earning departments and their clients. This role is based fully in the Reading office on a hybrid basis.

Key Responsibilities the Legal Cashier will have to undertake:

  • Ensure the Unclaimed Funds list is up to date.
  • Review and authorises bank payments, acting as a cheque signatory within agreed limits.
  • Conduct daily banking of Client &amp; Office Account receipts and updates ledgers.
  • Record disbursements invoices, including counsel fees.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and manages fund transfers between accounts and matters.
  • Address queries from fee-earning departments and maintains department filing.
  • Process supplier invoices, arranges supplier payments, and manages the purchase ledger inbox.
  • Provide cover for processing client and other office account payment requests, including electronic cheque printing.

Key Requirements for the Legal Cashier:

  • GCSE/'A' level standard or equivalent, including English and Maths GCSE as a minimum.
  • Computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • 3 years of experience in a Legal Cashier or similar role in a small to medium-sized legal practice (desirable).
  • Good working knowledge of SRA Accounts Rules and VAT (essential).
  • Working knowledge of Elite 3E (desirable).
  • Experience in dealing with Counsel's Fee Notes and liaising with Chambers Fee Clerks (desirable).
  • Ability to perform the role with minimum supervision.
  • High level of numeracy and basic accounting knowledge.
  • Articulate with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
